Description: Isfehan is the third major city in central Iran(Persia), 252 miles(406 km) south of Tehran, the current capital.
Isfehan has been the capital of Persia twice in history and each time the situation helped it flourish specially the second time under Shah Abbas the Great in Safavid dynasty. City is famous for a variety of arts, architecture, boulevards, covered bridges, palaces, tiled mosques and minarets. Isfahan also has many historical buildings, monuments, paintings, and artifacts.
The Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan is one of the largest city squares in the world. UNESCO has designated it a World Heritage Site.
The city is also famous for its handicrafts, such as rug weaving, silverware, copper work, woodwork, brass work, and pottery. The old art of tile making has been successfully revived in order to repair the ancient monuments.
The rich history and cultural heritage of Isfehan makes it an attractive tourist destination.
There is an old saying in Iran to describe Isfehan as famously, "Esfahān nesf-e-jahān": Isfehan is half of the world.
Hand-made rug weaving was revived in Isfephan in the second quarter of the 20th century, and it expanded rapidly in production of exports of excellent quality and design for the European market. Many of the patterns are created by professional designers and beautifully drawn with swirling vines or arabesques, usually on a cream ground and with a hard brick-red border.
This rug has a well-known Hunting design, prepared and made by Seirafian, a famous family business in Isfehan. Master Seirafian uses only a few designs in his rugs including Hunting, all the stages of design, coloring, and weaving the rugs have been done under his management and in many cases his own hands-on work.
Coloring of rug is very specialized. All the colors used in rug are natural dye.
The Rusty blue (Zangari) and red dye obtained from the root of the madder plant (Ronase) are specific to Isfehan rugs. The natural dye cream color is produced from walnut skin.
Hunting design is the scene of horse riders who are after animals. When gazelles or tigers are in picture it is mostly an image of a royal hunting.
This rug has a full design with overall design in the middle.
Pile of the rug is 95% Kork (fresh wool from sheep) and 5% silk.
The foundation is 100% silk which help high density weaving.
The rug is more than 50 years old.
